A LABORATORY FOR IDEAS

Studio 170 │ Residency provides New England artists and audiences with an open, lively place for inspiration, experimentation, and open discourse in the heart of Boston. Established in 2019, the residency opens the Goethe-Institut Boston’s unique, flexible space up to artists of all artistic practices as a laboratory for ideas. Each year a call for projects goes out and a jury made up of curators and cultural advocates from New England selects a new cohort of artists. The artists are offered a two-week, on-site residency to develop a new project idea and present it to and interact with an audience. The mission behind the program is to provide much-needed space for artistic experimentation in the heart of Boston and invite the Boston community to share in the excitement of and interact with artistic creative processes.
